Customizing Your Car Electronics Audio and Other Accessories

May 31, 2010 by
Filed under Car Electronics & GPS

A person’s car is not merely a vehicle. It becomes so much a part of the owner and an extension of the owner’s personality. It is not uncommon to find cars that have been affectionately named by their owners. It is even more common to have a car customized according to the owner’s particular interests, especially in the area of car electronics, including the car audio such as car radio, car stereo and car speakers or even a car iPod and car GPS. Of course, car wheels, rims and car tires are also often customized. Other popular add ons are the car remote for a keyless entry and alarms. Audio Plus provides all these and also marine audio, speakers, and radio for boats. They serve car and boat owners in Riverview, Brandon, Lithia, Sun City Center, Apollo Beach, Seffner, Ruskin, Valrico, Bloomingdale, Wimauma, Sarasota, Bradenton and Plant City.

There is a dizzying array of products to choose from, including in dash screens, headrest screens, motorized screens, roof mount screens, double din screens, screen packages, double din units, navigation units, navigation packages, navigation software, portable navigation. Navigation/GPS, nav-traffic, K-40 radar detectors, backup sensors, backup cameras, rearview mirror monitor, DVD players, TV tuners, digital TV, aerials, aux-in stereos, Sirius satellite radio, XM satellite radio, CD tuners, car CD changers CD/MP3 players, CD/MP3/Bluetooth, CD/MP3/USB, bluetooth, iPod adaptors, cassette tuners, DAB units, amplifiers, 4″ (10 cm) speakers, 5¼” (13 cm) speakers, 5″x7″ speakers, 6″ (16 cm) speakers, 6½” (17 cm) speakers, 6″ x 9″ speakers, 8″ (20 cm) speakers, tweeters, 10″ subwoofers, 12″ subwoofers, 15″ subwoofers, amplified bass units, subwoofer grills and bass boxes.

The best brands to look for are Clarion, Jensen, Pioneer, Kicker, Eminence, O2 Audio, Parrot, AudioVox, Realm, Exonic, Total Mobile Audio, Selenium, JL Audio and Kenwood.

Car owners can choose either full range car speakers or component car speaker systems. Full range car speakers have all the elements in one unit, including a woofer to produce lows and a tweeter to produce highs. More complex models include midrange drivers too. Full range car speakers are the easiest replacements for factory speakers and often fit well into their locations. Component car speakers have separate woofers, tweeters and external crossovers. They can, therefore, be mounted in locations of the owner’s choosing to create the best sound. The separate external crossovers have internal components of higher quality. Overall, component car speaker systems are more high end than full range speakers.

Audio Plus also fabricates customized fiber glass and boxes. Custom car audio boxes or subwoofer enclosure types include the infinite baffle enclosure, sealed enclosure, ported (vented) enclosure, single reflex bandpass (4th order) enclosure, dual reflex bandpass (6th order) enclosure and series tuned dual reflex bandpass enclosure.

It is best to consult car audio experts such as Audio Plus in putting together custom car audio electronics and other accessories. They can guide the car owner in choosing the items that will suit his or her demands and expectations.

Other auto accessories that are often in demand include HID lights, hyper white lights, Euro lights, chrome handles, chrome accents, grills, train horns and horn blasters.

If you are from Riverview, Brandon, Lithia, Sun City Center, Apollo Beach, Seffner, Ruskin, Valrico, Bloomingdale, Wimauma, Sarasota, Bradenton or Plant City you can satisfy your needs for customized car electronics such as car audio, radio, stereo, speakers, iPod and GPS; or other car accessories such as car tires, wheels and rims, as well as car remote for keyless entry and alarms, by going to Audio Plus. You can even get marine audio, speakers, and radio to make your boat just as well accessorized as your car. The great thing is that they can work within your specified budget and you can avail of their “90 days good as cash” payment scheme.

Sony To Stop Making Car Electronics?

I just heard at work (Large Retail Store) that one of our installers here talked with another car stereo retail store and he heard that Panasonic and Sony were going stop making car audio. Panasonic has already stopped and Sony will stop manufacturing in the near future. Things like car stereos, amplifiers, subwoofers, and such.

Anyone hear anything about this? Is Sony going to stop making car audio?

Answer
Something might have been misconstrued in the conversation.

Maybe they may temporarily stop making car audio as in the production line, but neither are going to stop making car audio altogether.

The global economy is in a rut – and it’s quite possible that they may have an overstock of inventory. Wouldn’t worry about them going out completely though.

The 4 Best Places To Find Free New Car Reviews And Pricing

May 31, 2010 by

Checking out the new car reviews is indeed fascinating, fun as well as informative. You may not need a car or want a car. It is fun just to fantasize about the new cars and trucks and imagining yourself sitting in it, smelling the new leather.

You might have noticed the Chevy ads on TV, wherein a site is mentioned as endorsement of Chevies (as if they NEED any endorsement!). Edmunds.com is a premier site for a number of purposes. At this site, you can check the ratings as customers (not manufacturers or sales people) find the car to be on gas mileage, epa emissions, speed, pick up, comfort, and other valued characteristics. New car ratings, comparison charts (and photos), and some of the most entertaining and informative articles are there. One article is a series of writings on the man who went to work as an “undercover” used car and new car salesman. He reveals the gimmicks, the scams, the pressures and the buffoonery that contribute to the new and used car milieus.

Other helpful new car reviews are, such as those done by the reporters at CNN/Money (money.cnn.com) who reveal the stats and remarks for the “best new minivan” (Honda Odyssey); “best new car” (Chrysler 300); and “best new sports car” (Corvette – though how could one possible choose between the many bests?); and “best pick-up” (Toyota Tacoma). CNN/Money also gives new car reviews for the Car of the Year and the Truck of the Year – the Chrysler 300 and the Land Rover LR3, respectively. Each of the new car reviews here gets a full-length article devoted to it, one which includes the specs, the stats, and the photos we need to get our excitement roiling – if we need motivation, that is.

Car.com features many pictures on their site for pricing a car (according to your zip code), and also includes a “research” section, where you can do a car history report search, get financing calculations, have car discussions, or browse the photo albums. And like the Car and Driver Magazine (on and offline), which has all this and more, the site offers used and new car reviews as written by professionals, enthusiasts, and aficionados.

It’s nice to be able to rely on 4 trustworthy sources for history, horse power, and hooplas -whether you will actually buy that car or just collect information and photos you can drool over. For most of us, it is not the act of buying, in this case it requires a lot of money – an difficult decision at many times, but the act of dreaming of driving that newest and hottest car that keeps us most satisfied.

Lucas automotive products?

What are your ratings and reviews of Lucas fuel treatment product?

Answer
The Lucas fuel treatment is the only fuel treatment I’ve ever used and gotten actual results.

When the engine in my truck is under a load it makes a clattering sound like a diesel.

One weekend I was helping some friends haul stuff for a garage sale. I was pulling a 20 ft trailer and the engine sound was driving me crazy. I stopped at the local auto parts store and the guy recommended Lucas fuel treatment.

I added it and went on my way.

After a few miles (I guess it had to reach the injection system) the engine began to sound quieter. After a while the clattering stopped. I asked my wife “am I crazy or does the engine sound better?” She agreed the stuff must have done the trick.

Now I add it to a tank every time I get my oil changed. Works like a charm!

I would love to know why you asked this question… Have you had good or bad experiences with Lucas???

Repo Auctions Are Automotive Candy Stores

May 27, 2010 by

Getting a great deal on an automobile purchase is nearly impossible, but there are places to turn for good buys and even better cars. One such place is a repo auction. But, many people don’t quite understand what repo auctions are and they don’t seem to realize what hidden treasures can be found at them.

Let’s look at some of the top questions and answers surrounding repo auctions:

What is a repo auction?
A repo auction is one that’s held on behalf of banks and other lenders to help liquidate merchandise that’s been defaulted back into the bank’s ownership. Everything from houses and cars to boats and trucks can be had at repo auctions. In the automotive market, a repo auction can be a very good place to get a good deal on a vehicle that’s newer and generally in pretty good shape.

Why do banks take part in repo auctions?
Banks that write car loans or mortgages don’t want to own a fleet of vehicles or a neighborhood of homes. They want the interest earned on the loan, not the merchandise. To help them recover the financial loss experienced in a default, they often host auctions to recoup their money. This doesn’t mean the bank will necessarily let a car go for thousands and thousands less than its value, but since it really is only interested in covering its loss, savings likely will be realized. Sometimes the savings can be great.

What kind of cars can be found at repo auctions?
Just about any type of car, truck or van that a bank will write a loan for can be found at a repo auction. Typically these are newer model vehicles that are worth the “risk” to the bank.

What is the condition of vehicles at these auctions?
That will vary from vehicle to vehicle quite honestly. Most vehicles are in very good shape, but that doesn’t mean all of them are. It’s important to ask questions about items you might bid on. Don’t take it for granted the car is in perfect working order.

Are their warranties on purchases from auctions?
Sometimes. Generally, the banks themselves auction the cars off “as is,” but it’s possible manufacturer warranties will extend to the purchase. It will all depend on the banks, the cars in question and who made them.

What kind of deals can be had?
Again that will depend on the car in question and the loan that was outstanding on it, but generally you can pick up newer cars for a fraction of the sticker price by going to auction. Of course, you have to place the winning bid to do so.

How do you find these auctions?
They are generally listed in newspapers, magazines, on television and there are even special computer programs that know exactly where to look to find upcoming auctions. Some of these programs can sort auctions by those that have particular cars, too.

A repo auction is a different way to buy a car, but the truth is it can be a great way to do so. There’s no reason to pay full price, but it is a good idea to exercise judgment and look carefully before bidding.

What’s a good and reasonably priced GPS automotive system?

I was thinking about purchasing the Garmin Streetpilot c340 because of the great reviews for it and the closely updated maps, however I found out that the website has discontinued the product. It made me unsure of whether or not I wanted to purchase it. Is there another closely updated GPS automotive device that is reasonably priced that you would recommend?

Answer
Check out the Nuvi series Garmin GPS. It looks as though they use the same UI as the c300 series Streetpilots, and are very capable devices.

A Review Of The All New 2007/2008 Hyundai Sonata

May 23, 2010 by

The 2007 Hyundai Sonata is a stylish new vehicle. While the old version reminded many car patrons of a Jaguar in terms of style, the 2007 version looks even better, with a front lamp that resembles an Audi and a backside that looks like an Accord. The thin roof pillars and the driver’s upright position also contribute to its esthetic value.

Aside from its impressive styling, the 2007 Sonata is a smooth ride. It’s interiors are spacious and comfortable. The driving position it excellent. Passengers will appreciate the ample head and leg room at the back, even for large adults. The wide door openings and expansive footwells make it easy to enter or exit the car. The seats themselves are very comfortable although some have suggested putting in firmer padding for those long-distance drives. http://www.ourismanhyundai.com

The Sonata is also a quiet ride and can easily suppress wind rush. And while the engine note tends to increase with speed, the sound isn’t really annoying though the tires sometimes thump over ridges.

In addition, the Sonata’s balance control is superb. It reacts smoothly to small road imperfections and comfortably handles ridges, sharp bumps and fast curves.

The 2007 Sonata, which is the smaller of Hyundai’s two midsize sedans, comes in three models. The Sonata Limited trim is the top-line model and has a 235-hp V6 and 5-speed automatic as well as heated front seats, automatic climate control and fine leather upholstery. Like the Limited, the Sonata SE also has a 235-hp V6 and 5-speed automatic. Meanwhile, the Sonata GLS has 162-hp 4-cylinders and a choice of either 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. All models are equipped with ABS and traction/antiskid control as well as front-side and curtain-side airbags.

Overall, the Sonata’s advantage over other cars of its class such as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima is that combines comfort, spaciousness, sophisticated design and reliable performance as well as a reasonable price.

In a nutshell, the 2007 Sonata is a bigger, sharper and more technologically advanced version than the 2006 model, which was re-designed and launched as an all-new model last year. This year’s Sonata promises to be even more highly regarded than the 2006 version, which is no mean feat considering that last year’s Sonata was a certified darling of the automotive press.

According to MotorWeek, the 2006 Sonata was the “Best Family Sedan,” Popular Mechanics bestowed upon it its “Safety Excellence” award, Consumers Digest regarded it as a “Best Buy” and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance called it “Best in Class.” In addition, the 2006 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study ranked the Sonata among the top three mid-size cars of 2006 while the National Highway Traffic Survey Administration gave it a rating of five stars, the highest possible mark, in its crash test rating for front and side impacts.

There is still room for improvement, though. For instance, big people complain that it’s difficult to get into the driver’s seat since the steering wheel does not tip up far enough. For extra comfort, an armrest between the two front seats would be nice.

Automotive Photography Information Tips

May 19, 2010 by

The Pirelli calendar is one that’s eagerly awaited by all and sundry involved with automotive matters and excellent photography, but ‘sundry’ rarely ever gets to own a copy. Even so, there is always keen interest in both the models, the photographer/s shooting this exclusive calendar, and how the models are depicted in the calendar.

One of the most striking, and yet subtle, calendars from this tyre company came several years ago when the tyre tread pattern was tastefully depicted as an element of the whole image. This time around, the thirty-fifth, Pirelli has a more commercial motive behind the choice of models – Pirelli’s increased presence in China with the opening of a new tyre plant. So, along with the inclusion of Chinese models in the calendar, the theme of the calendar focuses on Shanghai, along with its teahouses and former colonial areas.

The photographer is Patrick Demarchelier, originally from the small French sea town of Le Havre. He is possibly most well known as being Princess Diana’s official photographer – historic because he was the first non-Brit to photograph the royal family. This is Demarchelier second time as the Pirelli calendar photographer – the first was in 2005 in Rio de Janeiro in exotic, sultry Brazil.

The 2008 edition has (disappointingly for those expecting a skin show) 23 portraits, the odd number due to August having just one. The selected models include Agyness Deane and Lily Donaldson (UK), Doutzen Kroes (the Netherlands), Catherine Mc Neil and Gemma Ward (Australia), Sasha Pivovarova (Russia), Coco Rocha (Ireland) and Caroline Trentini (Brazil). The Chinese beauties are Mo Wan Dan, Du Juan and Maggie Cheung, the latter is an actress known for her roles in Chinese and English films like Police Story, Super Cop, Actress, Chinese Box and others.

Du Juan, whose name means both the Azalea flower and the Cuckoo bird, was the first Asian model to grace the cover of French Vogue. Mo Wandan was born in Guangdong Province, China. She trained in track and field, but quit after injury. After she participated in, and won, the China Model Star Contest in 2004, she was signed on by a modeling agency.

You’ve just won the lottery, or suddenly discovered a great inheritance. Whatever the reason – the important thing is that now you’re rich. But there’s a catch, there always is. It’s not what you’re thinking though – you don’t have to sell your soul, far from it in fact. The only condition is that you have no choice but to spend all the money in a single year, and no safe investments allowed either.

Now you can really rub your hands with delight – you may actually enjoy this yet. If you like to travel the world, and have even a hint of petrol in your veins, here are a few good tips on how you can make the most of it:
Another legend of the sport and multiple F1 champion, Sir Jackie Stewart, termed the infamous Nurburgring – ‘the Green Hell.’ At the time, the track was both revered and anticipated for the challenge it presented, but also dreaded for the threat it posed. Sir Jackie, a forceful proponent for safety during his time in F1, once exclaimed that if he were ever to go around the track slowly, and in doing so notice the real dangers it posed, he may never race there again.

Answer
My answer will be from doing 10 years of stereo equip. installs and working at various auto part stores… Run a seperate power source (preferably an optima red or yellow top) installed wherever you want to install it…you can buy a battery box to put it in and mount it in a sturdy area…depending on the vehicle that you have ( Chevys and Ford truck/suvs) have kits to install a second alternator to keep it charged… the optima batteries are gel cell batteries that are almost impossible to kill….but again it depends on the amount of money you want to spend…also you will need to purchase power invertors with 120 watt or better plugs…some you buy now will come also with USB 2.0 plug in ports!

Historic Automotive Photographer

Narain’s flawless performance should remind those who’ve have cast him aside that he’s still very much a force to be reckoned with on the world motorsport stage. In all fairness though, he was a little lucky to inherit first position when Neel Jani of Switzerland, who was leading comfortably, had trouble in the pits. But, more often than not, you need lady luck in your corner in order to win a race. Narain, on his part, put in quick laps when it counted, and set one fastest lap after another to secure his position.

Automotive Security Systems

When it comes to the security and protection of your car, sometimes there is no such thing as too much. There are various types of automotive security systems out there, each of them possessing their own good qualities and features. Finding the right one for your vehicle protection needs will take some time and research but like buying any product, it is worth it. Never buy the first security system that a salesperson throws at you. It’s a major investment that has to be perfect otherwise it’s just pointless.

The first thing that you must do is establish what type of security you need. A car that is older and has little value may not need the same kind of protection that a fancy new car will need. There is simply no sense paying for something that you don’t want or need. Look into the various types of alarm systems to see what fits for you. Price will play a big part in this too since a higher end system will have more features but will also cost more.

A basic alarm system is the audible type that sets off a loud alarm when the vehicle is tampered with. Sometimes that is all that it takes to scare off a would be thief. This type of system is great for those that just want a little extra protection without all of the additional features available. There are other systems that don’t make any noise at all. Instead they send you a quiet alert like a page or text message. Then you know something is up with your car. If you can’t get to it fast though this may not be a good choice. There are other systems that will immobilize your ignition so that the car itself cannot be stolen. This is quickly becoming a popular choice.

If you prefer, you can get a combination of the three different types of alarm but this can get expensive. That’s why you should always shop around and speak to a number of different alarm system dealers before making a final choice. Not only do you need to consider price but you should also be asking about warranty on parts as well as installation. Get all of this information in writing, including prices quoted to you for different systems.

You must keep in mind that certain things can make your car a target for thieves. If you have a heavily customized ride with fancy tires, rims and other accessories, an alarm system may not be enough. These kinds of cars simply get targeted more because thieves can sell off parts like rims very quickly. If you have a customized car, the safest bet is to keep it in a garage out of sight.

Ask around about certain security products and services before choosing one. Customer reviews are a great way to learn about items that you are unsure of. Word of mouth advertising remains the best form. Do your research and take your time. Security for your car is important and should be done right the first time.

Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight. The Acura TL was redesigned for the 1999 model year. Dummy movement was well controlled. After the dummy moved forward into the airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury. Measures taken from the head, neck, chest, and left leg indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be possible. 2002 Acura 3.2TL 4-door 3475 front seat-mounted torso airbags 108 193 71 3.2 L V6 19 29

Answer
$8,000 cash. The Carfax says the car is “clear”..

I know they will never sell for that price but a brand new Kia Rio is $8,000 with a 5 year warranty and it runs great and is fun to drive. That is not always true for a 2003 car..
