Netbook 11.6-inch, 7hour battery, Acer Aspire One
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Used my sister’s 10-inch, 3hour battery Acer Netbook on trip to Europe. Used USB Travel Phone and made Skype calls for 6 weeks. This saved about $300. in phone expense over last trip to Europe, which paid for this 11.6-inch, 7-hour battery unit. Larger keyboard, extra battery life, and larger monitor all pluses. USB Travel Phone overcomes serious negative for these Netbooks, which is terribly low speaker volume and microphone background noise using the built-in web-cam. Will use netbook on all future travel.

Very Disappointed
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
First off, mine isn’t a blue one, its red, but when I did the search, it didn’t show it any more. Hmmmm. I am very disappointed in this netbook. My daughter received this as a gift for Christmas. Due to traveling, we just put it in her new netbook case and threw away the box. We got home and excited to do the Skype with her nana and papa, it froze up. The netbook froze, nothing worked except a hard reboot. Thinking it was a glitch, we did it again and again and we Skyped other people and it froze. She played with some of the games that it came with and it froze up on her too. So now we know it is just not Skype, its something to do with the netbook. We have called Amazon, they have referred us to Electronica Direct. Their website says that it has to be in original box (we don’t have it). Not sure what we are going to do except wait til Monday (they work Mon – Thurs 10 – 5 and Fri 10 – 1. Seriously what kind of hours are those???) I am hoping they will do something because its hard to watch my daughter want to use her netbook and it keeps freezing up. I hope that something can be done.
Do I think you should buy this? No, not until they fix whatever problems seem to be going on with it. I am not the only one complaining. Go to Acer’s forums and see the 57 pages of complaints just about the freezing netbooks.
I hope this helps someone decide. I know I do tend to look at the comments and unfortantly not enough people complained here.

Acer Aspire – 2nd One not working!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This is the second Acer Aspire I have bought this year and the second time that it has stopped working within 3 weeks!! The last one did EXACTLY the same as this one – just randomly would not power on…no lights showing up when plugged in, no lights when you try to turn on…nothing, just dead. I sent in the last one to be repaired under warranty and it has been working fine since, but because I live in the British Virgin Islands I have the expense of paying for Fedex myself! Unbelievable that the SAME thing has happened with the 2nd one I bought – I thought it was just a random event with the first one.

Unusable out of the box
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have a previous 8.9″ acer and liked the size of this one much more. The weight is about the same but the screen is much better. Not only the size of the screen but the resolution is excellent. I could not use the old acer for more than a half hour but this machine can easily substitute for a larger laptop. The cons are that it is unusable out of the box and needs a lot of tweaking to get it to run. I bought the XP version because I can’t go beyond XP for a lot of the software I need for work. The processor on this machine is slower than my old Acer but the battery life is much longer. The old machine averaged about 4.5 hours and this one easily tops 7 hours on a full charge. I’m willing to trade some clock speed for longer battery life. The hard drive is about the same as my old one and large enough for a netbook. This machine comes with 1gb of Ram and probably needs 2gb. I will be upgrading that at a cost of 50 bucks. If software is not an issue the Acer running windows 7 with more ram and a larger hard drive is a better buy. This machine should only be purchased by people who know how to tweak a system and get rid of all the bloatware. I used msconfig to get rid of all the startup items except the mouse pointer and anti virus. It comes with Mcafee anti-virus which slows the computer down to a crawl and requires you to pay for updates. It’s just worthless so I put my NOD32 on it which is way better. Google desktop is another junk-ware you need to get rid of. After about 2 hours I was able to get the computer to work the way I wanted. There are some things that slow the machine down that are not so obvious so it takes time. I have no idea why Acer would sell this machine as is. People who are not windows experts will just get frustrated and return it. This is why people wind up buying Macs because they just work well right out of the box. In summary this is a great computer for an expert windows user who needs XP. I have not installed the extra memory yet but I can do most of the things I want including using Netflix and watching Youtube videos. Some basic things on Facebook are too much for this computer right now. I hope the extra memory will help but this also pushes the price up.

Be aware of the battery protrusion
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Great little netbook with a full size keyboard. Very satisfied with it except for the 6-cell battery. While it does last a good long time, it protrudes out the back of the computer by about an inch. This is not apparent from any of the photos I saw. I’m sure I will get used to it but it does sort of detract from its otherwise svelt looks.

Acer Aspire 11.6
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was skeptical at purchasing an Acer Netbook because I have always purchased Dell, HP, IBM or Compaq in the past and did not know if the Acer Netbook could compare. Let me tell you, it does not compare. It far exceeds all these other brands and out performs them. It is like apples and oranges. The Acer Aspire is in another league. A very good looking, comfortable to carry and use, and quick as lightning. I purchased it for my wife because of price and I already had a Dell Mini 10. Well let me tell you I have purchased me one also and the Mini 10 is for sale.

Don’t waste your money
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought the Acer A0751h-1522 with the 250 gb HD, and 2GB of Ram. At first I was thrilled, but by October the computer would randomly freeze up during simple application tasks. The problem persisted so I called tech support. They had me run a fresh install. After that the problem continued, and the lap top became so unstable I had to stop using it. I called several times, and each time the customer support had me do the same thing. Finally the restore file wouldn’t even run, so they said I can ship it in for repair. Oh but here is the kicker, I had to pay to ship it one way. What?! I was so upset by this and expressed my disatisfaction, but the tech support could do nothing about it. So here is the deal; It looks cool, seems convenient, but Acer hardware is not stable. Their customer support and service stinks. If these things matter to you do not buy. Myself, I will never buy another Acer product again. They have lost a person who is brand loyal. Too bad for them. Good luck.

ACER ASPIRE ONE A0751h 1192
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I purchased this product with a few things in mind. First I wanted a small enough computer to function properly without all the bells and whistles. Second I wanted to be able to see the text without straining my eyes. This Acer Aspire 1192 is small enough and funtions well enough for my taste. There is one complaint I have and that is the computer will freeze up at times. I’m not sure if it’s do to the many programs that already come installed or if it’s contains a slow processing unit. So far I’m pleased that I’ve made a decent purchase. It has an 11.6 screen–built in webcam and microphone ;and full size keyboard.

Great Little Travel Computer
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We puchased this little laptop to check our e-mail while traveling. It is lightweight, sturdy and easy to use. We had a little trouble viewing the screen – glare seems bad when sunny out and we are getting old so our eyes are not so good, but overall are very pleased with our puchase. Definately glad we went with the 7-hour battery life, has made a great difference. Very nice deal for the price.

Tantalizingly close to being perfect, yet useless.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I will keep this short.
It is an awesome little computer at a great price EXCEPT for two things:
1) SOME OF THEM ARE LEMONS and randomly lock up when you are using them.
and
2) ACER has conveniently setup a corporate bureaucratic obstacle course to keep you from returning the LEMONS.
* You will waste hours of your time trying to fix the problem.
* Then they will waste your money AND time by having you ship it back so they can reformat it and ship it back to you just like you got it before. (You do get to choose how much time vs. money you get to waste on shipping costs as you are paying half of them yourself)
* Then they will waste your time again as they send you back through the obstacle course.
* Repeat ad nauseum or BUST.

Not bad, but will take a little “getting used to” to actually like the product
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Overall, the product is really nice. For a $300 netbook, this one has really good configuration. However, at times, I have seen the OS to be responding slowly. Since it is Windows XP, I put the blame on the hardware for something to be wrong. However, we should not be expecting great things from a 1 Ghz ATOM processor compared to Dual Cores we see on regular laptops.
I bought this for my Dad who will basically be using it for web browsing and Word/Excel documents. Given that kind of use, I think this is one of the best value for money out there.

Dead on Arrival…. =(
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I ordered my Acer Aspire One 11.6″ AO751h-1192 from Amazon and not from an independent seller on Oct 12 and received it at my post office on Oct 24. Since I was out of town that day I was not able to pick it up till Oct 26. I plugged it in and set everything up correctly and it was dead. At first I suspected maybe the problem was a faulty ac adapter, wanting to be optimistic. I took it to a professional computer tech and they checked everything out and finally told me it was probably a bad motherboard. So I repackaged my netbook and shipped it back to Amazon on Nov 2. Now although my review for this product is a 1 star rating, I would rate Amazon’s refund service 5 out of 5 stars. After they received the netbook I got a full refund plus my entire cost of shipping on Nov 10th. So instead of getting another Acer netbook I purchased an Asus Eee PC 11.6″ netbook from best buy and I have been using it for about a week now and I am very satisfied with my new netbook. Yay!!!!

This 11.6 Netbook is very light, has an 8 hr. battery life, has the wi-fi card and all the other “necessary” bells and whistles. It also comes standard with webcam and does all the things any laptop will do at a much lower price. Well worth the dollar investment for a take-along brain. The price through Amazon beat everybody, including Costco and Best Buy. This will be a very hot Christmas item!

Solid netbook
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a really solid netbook. As long as your expectations aren’t too high, you’ll be perfectly happy with this. Keep in mind this is not a notebook and it’s not a desktop replacement. It’s perfect for low-intensity use such as writing emails, editing a document, transferring music to MP3 player – just don’t try to do all those things at once. It doesn’t have the capacity to handle a lot of processor-heavy things at once, and that’s not what it’s meant for.
On the physical features, it’s really sleek and well designed. Very thin and lightweight, and the battery life is great. The screen is really clear and bright – much better than the Lenovo S10 I have for work. The difference between a 10.1 inch screen and an 11.6 inch screen is significant, with the 10.1 inch you’re constantly scrolling and trying to see a whole page, but with the 11.6 inch you don’t really have that issue.
On the whole I’d recommend it, for $300 you can’t really go wrong.

Get at least a 1.6 Ghz Netbook
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I ignored warnings that a 1.33 Ghz Atom cpu netbook was too slow. Don’t make the same mistake. Screen size does not compensate for slowness. Its as if we went back from Fios to DSL speed. There are numerous 1.6 Ghz netbooks out there and that 25% boost matters.
Another anoyance of the gesturing pointing device. The cursor jumps all over the place. This prompted me to just return this and buy a proper netbook.

Freezing problem
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I had to return mine within 2 weeks after I received it due to a problem with it freezing up on me. I called Acer customer service at least 3 times for this problem and I had to reload my computer twice and the problem kept happening. Customer service was good, but maybe this one was just a lemon. Overall, besides the freezing problem, I think it’s a good price for what you get (if you get one that doesn’t have any problems) and it’s small which makes it very portable. Returning it was very easy and Amazon customer service was very good.
Thank you

Nice screen, long battery life but slow processor
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I purchased the Aspire One 11.6 netbook to replace my Dell mini 9. One thing I like about the Acer is the fullsize keyboard and bigger screen…Upon receiving the netbook, I immediately removed all the useless programs because of the slower processor. The netbook is basically great for word processing and surfing the web. The battery life is excellent…I actually used the netbook for the entire flight from Honolulu to Phoenix on one charge (6 hours). The screen is also very nice. The only thing I do not like about this netbook is the slow processor. The picture freezes up when I watch programs on Hulu…constantly. Maybe the Acer 10.1″ with the 1.66MHz processor will work better if you are planning on watching a lot of programs with high quality pictures.

Netbook on the desk
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Needing this in order to avoid having to move my desktops uphill when it floods here (I live beside a river), and for its portability otherwise, I have an ethernet cable, a large widescreen monitor, the AC power supply, a PS/2 keyboard through a PS/2-to-USB adapter, a USB mouse, a short USB ‘extension cord’ (to preserve the third USB socket from wear due to heavy use), and a set of headphones, all plugged into this little wonder on my desktop. Its memory (1 Gb) and hard drive (150 Gb) are both more than both my large/bulky desktops put together. This baby is wonderful: all the normal full functionality of a desktop, plus the portability and small size of a laptop on a diet. Acer has always been a good brand name as well. So far I have no complaints, and the price was right. (My only regret was, a few days after committing to buy here at Amazon.com, seeing the same netbook at WalMart with another Gb of memory and another 1 Gb of hard drive, for a similar price….)
Fine product. Fine price. Fine deal.

The note book has a full size keyboard and is very light weight for travel. 6-7 hr battery life is impressive. I added a wireless mouse which may be the cause of curser sometimes locking up when using 2007 MS Word. I have to remove battery and reboot when it happens.

Better than expected.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I ordered this for my kids so we would stop fighting over my desktop in the afternoons when they need to do their homework, but I find myself using it just as much. It runs great and is easy to carry around the house or out and about. I can use it during church for taking notes, as it is completely silent. The battery life is amazing! I find the keyboard to be quite accomodating and easy to use. When I plugged in my headphones to listen to Pandora, I couldn’t believe the quality of the sound. It was better than my desktop.
The only drawback I can think of is that the print always comes in pretty small on the screen, so you have to enlarge it to your own comfort level.

Useful Netbook
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Very useful netbook:
11.6″ screen with crisp images — large enough for me to use with my students without them needing to “look over my shoulder”.
TouchPad is cumbersome and awkward; I ended up buying an inexpensive USB mouse.
More cost effective to rent an aircard (for a few days now and then when internet access is unavailable)
rather than buying an incredibly expensive plan (e.g., for upwards to $960 for the “standard 2 year commitment”).

acer and jr music
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
we received the “re-shipped” supposedly new acer computer over a month since ordering from jr music. The battery would not fit into the computer so, we are not really sure how it works. The first one that jr music sent would not “boot” because it had no operating system and this one is defective as well. Maybe the reason jr music is selling them $50 cheaper is because they are selling “seconds.” We finally have given up and will buy a web browser type of small computer from a local store.

poor battery
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
the idea is great. I got this to have something on vacations without worrying about my home laptop. However after 1 yr the battery stoped working and the only fix was to buy a new one. It still works with the plug in but if the plug accidently comes out of the laptop – computer goes black and have to do a repair start up. that was a real let down! spent $350 for what has now become a small “desktop” (since I am always tied to an outlet).
Also note – screen is small thus the typeface is small. you can zoom in but then have to scroll back and forth on a web page.
There is NO CD/DVD Drive – everything you add has to either downloaded or via USB. No watching DVD movies on car rides or plane trips. (guess that wouldnt matter if your battery died also).

Portable, not powerful
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I acquired this little machine for its light weight and compact dimensions—and it has not disappointed. Easily transported and stowed, it’s a great device for the traveler. The 11.6 inch screen is very sharp but I would not spend hours in front of it working with spreadsheets or fine graphics. This Acer runs all Microsoft Office applications, albeit slowly and sometimes haltingly–other reviewers have mentioned freezes, which I have experienced, too. I use this economical laptop as a back-up device to my home desktop and it fills that role well, but no more than that. Hard to beat it for the price!

Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This looked like a really nice machine in the shop and using it suggests it could be great. However my machine suffers like so many others with the deadly freeze. This makes VOIP impossible and scrolling can only be done at your own risk. As these two tasks are vital to me the machine is almost useless. Anyone wishing to purchase it should first read the thread on the Aspireusers site which goes into 20 pages without a solution. Acer seem unable to provide a fix, (I’m currently waiting on a reply). Had I read the thread I would have steered clear and now regret the purchase very much.

Im typing my Review on my new Acer AO751h. The 11.6″ High Def Screen is FANTASTIC. Big, Bright, PERFECT. Keyboard is FAST and quiet. Construction feels very solid, no creaks or bending. My desktop is a 2.16 Ghz
Core Duo with an ASUS SLI Motherboard, and frankly Im amazed how well this little single core holds its own in comparison. The fact is, if you are doing heavy PROCESSING jobs like Gaming or Video editing, heck yeah a 1.22 Ghz wont cut it. If you are low on cash and want a full fledged all purpose LAPTOP computer, this aint it. You will be Hatin’ it! But for Web Surfing, Music, YouTube, e-mail etc, I find it to be WAY FAST ENOUGH. And compared to OTHER NETBOOKS, and I’ve BEEN shopping them all, this IS the one with all the goodies for the price. Personally, XP, 2gig Ram (I replaced the 1 gig with a 2 gig stick from Amazon for like, $28 ) the Great Keyboard, and the Fab 16 x 9 High Def Screen puts this one ahead of all the others. Absolutely no other complaints, except, oh yes, it IS a fingerprint magnet, BIG WHOOP! Happy Surfing!!

Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I purchased the acer because it had the largest screen and was priced below most of the others. I am glad that windows xp was installed and not vista since this computer has problems with simple tasks like browsing the Internet Xp consumes less of the netbooks resources compared to vista. I believe the problem with Internet speed and the computer freezing up which I experince about once a day lays in the Intel Atoms design the atom is a single core compared to the dual core intel i have in my notebook which enables a computer to function with less problems. I will be upgrading to a two gb 800mhz stick of ram to see if this helps. All in all I am pleased with the computers design it just gets annoying when you are trying to do things and the netbook freezes up.
Sept 27th 09 I just wanted to update that I returned this netbook and made the decision to stay away from netbooks altogether. Like I wrote it was just freezing to much, if you need it for microsoft office its not bad, but what frustrated me the most was the constant freezing.

Black Screens and Freezes
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Well, I thought I love this Netbook, but it freezes at least once per day or the screen goes black. Nothing to do but force a shut down and re-boot. Forums say the black screen could be caused by either a fault RAM module (mine came with 1x 2gb stick), or video problems. Either way, I’m changing the OS to Windows 7 RC instead of the horrible Vista Home that comes pre-installed. Overall, this Netbook is very light, has a great keyboard, nice bright screen (and large for a cheap price).

Great little netbook
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’m updating my review. I downloaded a movie from [...] and using their player, the movie plays great – a crip, clear picture and perfectly smooth. Absolutely no jumping or skipping at all. It’s just like watching a good DVD. So I guess the player has more to do with video perfomance than I originally thought. I’m upgrading my rating to 4 stars. My only issue now is the touchpad. It’s way too sensitive. It’s much too easy to click when all you mean to do is move the cursor. I may have to get a usb mouse.
Following is the original review -
The screen on this is great. It’s just the right size for easy travel, which is why I bought it. But the processor is very slow, and so is the graphics card. I bought it so I could use wifi when I travel, get to my emails and also watch movies on planes. It’s fine for browsing and emails and writing notes, etc. Mine came with XP installed. Even with XP, video is very choppy. I watched “Vanilla Sky”, and Tom Cruise jumped around more than he did on the Oprah couch! Videos are watchable, as long as the chopiness doesn’t get to you too much. I can watch it; my nephew can’t. I would imagine that if I had Vista on this, video would be totally unwatchable. From what I’ve read, this is about par for Netbooks; none of them really do videos well. It takes about 78 seconds to start up, after I deleted all the junkware on it and got all the unnecessary applications out of Startup. There is a new Lenovo coming out soon with an NVidia graphics card that supposedly will play as well as a desktop pc. It’s a 12 inch display – still not too big for a netbook (we want these things to be small enough to easily transport). I don’t know when that will be out, and I wanted a netbook right away. There are other netbooks with longer battery life too (I got the six cell battery and get about 7 hours). If video is important to you, wait for the Lenovo to come out. Otherwise this isn’t a bad netbook.

I’ve always been an Acer fan, but last Christmas, they couldn’t compete with the 10″ MSI’s (U100′s). I bought 6 of the MSI netbooks and set them up for friends and family. They are still a very nice netbook. But this new 11.6″ Acer is NICE! I don’t detect any lack of speed compared to the MSI. The keyboard is nicer and bigger and the trackpad works well (although the Logitech Nano Mouse is the only way to go). This one comes with XP, which is no-brainer. (sorry, but Vista doesn’t belong on netbooks). There’s a LOT of unnecessary software that loads at startup (probably the reason for the speed complaints, besides Vista). so you’ll want to spend some time removing it. Battery life looks really good, after charging it reports 8+ hours remaining, although after about 1/2 hour, it then shows 6 hours.
PROS:
-Very nice display 1366 x 768 res (sweet)
-6 cell battery sticks out the back so the thin profile is maintained
-Still actually squeezes into my 10″ neoprene sleeve/case
-Nice and thin but shiny surface shows fingerprints (just like MSI)
CONS:
-Single ram slot is occupied by 1 Gig stick, but specs indicate that is max?? (Vista versions ship with 2 Gig)
-Display is very glossy, I kinda prefer the matt finish like MSI.
-Extreme amount of bloatware. Use MSCONFIG to disable all the startup crap.
