This thing does not work. Start up time 15-20 minutes. Cannot multi-task. Graphic display awful. Locks up constantly. Loaded with junk ware. Cannot meet basic computer needs. A true bomb…DO NOT BUY!!!!

When I purchased this I had planned on using this sparingly and getting a full-size laptop eventually. Now? I will save the money and use it for different things because this little machine is amazing. I will say, the machine is fast with the 1 GB ram it comes with but do yourself a favor, if you are an adult and will be using this regularly, buy the 2 GB RAM upgrade. It’s a couple little screws, pinch the tabs on the card and pop-out the old and in with the new. This machine runs wonderfully and is quiet as well. The screen is crystal clear and, if you take care of your possessions, you will have no problem with this little guy running for a long time. I did not load a lot on here because I use it for school and in my cruiser at work but I never have to wait for uploads and I do watch Netflix movies on here and never get interrupted with service messages or what not. Great buy and an amazing investment.

I am so happy with this netbook. The battery life is amazing and it handles just like a full sized lap top. I highly recommend this product. I haven’t had any problems with it. I wish the sound/speakers were better but, an ear bud solved any issues.

Very Poor Service & Warranty on Acers
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I purchased an Acer Aspire One AOD250-1580 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook – 7.5 Hour Battery Life. After just 3 weeks the computer developed power issues. It wouldn’t hold a charge or even start up. It took me a week of daily e-mail exchanges just to get a phone number for the Acer service people. Then after another week of phone exchanges & a new power cord, I was told I’d have to mail my computer to Acer for repairs AT MY EXPENSE! There are no local Acer service centers in the US, so I could not take it in personally for warranty repairs.

    LOVE IT

When i first ordered this netbook I didn’t realize how small it was going to be. Then I got it and going from a 17.6 in laptop to a 10.1 in netbook was quite a shocker. I saw that I had 30 days for a return so I thought I would just try it. It took me a little while to get use to the smaller keyboard and I had made mention to my mother in law that I would give it to her once I got a bit of a bigger one. Well after a few weeks I really got attached! I LOVE how light it is. I LOVE how small it is to carry (i just throw it in my purse when i go to the library to study or to the laundry mat). I had kaspersky 2010 antivirus on it…but a 1 gb ram…then my netbook started to slow down HORRIBLY! I was so frustrated with it, but then I upgraded the ram to 2 gb. Still slow…I uninstalled K2010…downloaded windows FREE antivirus and use google chrome as my browser and now my netbook is the fastest thing ever. I am soooooo happy and in love with it I ordered my mother in law the same one, but white. This is perfect for someone who just needs internet and a typing program. I talked my mom into getting the 11.6 in one in red. She loves it too!

Only con for me (amd my mom and mother in law) was all the games it had preinstalled. But revo uninstaller saved me from the clutter. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS for the work traveler or any student!

It’s a very light-weight, mobile, complete product! I’m REALLY happy with my choice. I was hospitalized twice lately & haven’t felt really well, so this netbook was a treasured “companion.”

    POOOOOR customer service from Acer

Contacted Acer to understand why the notebook does not hybernate, their repply was to ask me to submit a LOT of personal information as I had not register my pc, and then they would answer my question, in essence holding hostage any answer they may or may not have about the problems with their equipment

I like this netbook very much. It’s totally worth that price.

My friends all want to have one like this.

But, after I used it for a month, the battery’s life became shorter one hour than befor.I don’t know why.

This was my first purchase of a laptop. It has great memory, was able to load Microsoft Office, a graphics program, and Photoshop. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to use it that much as I am not a YFY house. Should have gone with a regular laptop because by the time I bought the extras to load programs, etc. It cost as much. But, for e-mail, web surfing it’s great.

Based on preview reviews, I purchased this netbook because of its affordability and keyboard/mouse set up. When shopping for my netbook, I was advised to a) consider the processor and b) check out the keyboard and mouse set up. I mainly use this netbook to surf the internet and writing documents and found that this netbook has met my needs. My only complaint is that when I use my USB ports, the keyboard doesn’t work properly.

This arrived on time, and was VERY WELL packaged for shipping. It was very easy to set up. We did load some print drivers to it using an inexpensive external CD drive (I think we paid less than $20 for it). We had no problem accesing our home wireless network. The sound on this machine was surprisingly loud for the size. We purposely did not want the latest Windows 7 operating system because first releases are usually buggy, and we didn’t know if we would have to buy new software (which we needed to do when we purchased a Vista machine).

Acer Aspire 250 fulfills expectations (comapre to smartphone and notebook)
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I do not agree that the netbook is properly compared with a smartphone. The value of the iPhone as far as “production” is that we keep our phones with us and hence they are usually available. My iPhone is practically always accessible to me. My netbook, however, is only with me when I have taken the step to carry it based on a foreseeable need (which is generally “production”). And then after I foresee the need for the netbook, I may decide that the burden of carrying the extra device (as well as usually the power supply to go with it) exceeds the need for “production.” In short, if I need to type notes, edit documents, work with spreadsheets or databases, etc., my iPhone will be in my pocket, but I will also be carrying a bag with a netbook or notebook. I cannot choose to rely on my iPhone for “production”.

My Thinkpad gathers dust now that I have one of these nifty Acers with a 10″ screen. It was three hundred bucks. So what if it gets lost, cracked, dropped, or completely fails (I have a solid backup system). The device at that price is not disposable, but is a game changer based on the low price. Also, I love the size and portability. Fortunately they thought enough to make the power adapter small as well (have you seen mini notebooks with relatively large power adapters?). Why carry the notebook? The bigger screen is nice and I tell myself that one day I will enjoy the benefits of the extra screen size, but day after day the Thinkpad stays closed and the netbook gets toted.

What about the additional power from the notebook? I am a Windows user and am not going to include games in this discussion any more than to say that generally netbooks, notebooks, and smartphones are not viable permanent substitutes for a desktop. All Windows users know the reality of living with a Windows machine. The faster processor, ram, etc., is nice when the machine is new, but after it has become “seasoned”, the performance degrades. I can use an old Compaq M300 pentium notebook running XP just as well as my Thinkpad or shiny new netbook, but I don’t because the PC slot has failed and the USB port cannot be accessed when the CD is installed (it’s that old!). The performance difference is noticeable, but still comparable. I wouldn’t switch choose to carry my Thinkpad over my netbook due to performance advantages.

No other device has been able to displace my desktop computer. No matter what I use for “production” or other purposes, I rely on my desktop when I am at its station for the convenience of the installation, my peripherals and cables always at the ready. There is no compromise on screen size, keyboard. My desktop synchronizes files with my portable devices, although honestly it really only matters that I synchronize with the netbook (I am just not using the Thinkpad much and did not renew my MobileMe subscription). Having the netbook and the desktop sync’d is a true luxury and I am thankful that the technology has finally become free, easy, and reliable. No netbook nor smartphone has made an impact on my use and reliance on my desktop.

All that said, I think smartphones can become more useful for “production.” We are all too aware of the Pre bringing the physical keyboard to knock out some iPhone sales. I “produce” less on my iPhone that I did on my Treo 650 because typing on the iPhone sucks. I play with voice recognition from time to time, so perhaps that is a step that would bring smartphones to the next level as far as “production”, but with obvious limits brought by verbalizing in non-private settings. I cannot see a smartphone being as useful or capable as a netbook to the extent that I would leave the netbook at home when I see the need for production.

Similarly, a netbook could never replace the phone. A phone always finds a place on one’s person due to the communication function of the phone. We are willing to carry a device that does more, but only to the extent that we retain the availability of the phones on our persons. A 10″ netbook will never be as portable or available as today’s phones (nevermind tomorrow’s phones!).

Do K-12′ers really believe that netbooks are more useful because they are accustomed to their phones? Perhaps they are more accepting of the small screens because they are aware of how limited is their ability to type into smartphones and because they have never become jaded with notebooks sporting screens from 13-17 inches. Besides, kids generally like gadgets, so why say no? I like gadgets, too.

The netbook has made a significant impact on me. I would like to go from a 10 to 12 inch screen, an extra gig of memory, and a wireless mouse that doesn’t require a USB stick (eg bluetooth). But I appreciate the built in SD card reader, USB ports, and very importantly the reasonable battery life. If they reduced the netbook so as to primarily act as a keyboard and screen for my iPhone, what would be my advantage? I see none.

I got this machine to replace my larger power hungry desktop and put windows 7 and Ubuntu netbook remix and both work great. I have been very impressed with this little machine. I hook it up to a monitor and keyboard at home and use it as a desktop as well.

I purchased this netbook for my husband to use when he’s out of the office. The portability made it worth the money. It functions as his desktop on the go. The only thing that would make it perfect is if it had a CD drive already included. Considering buying one for my daughter.

Great little powerhouse. I upgraded to 2GB memory before I booted up the first time and it blazes. I installed MS Office Pro 2007 and its a workhorse. Wireless connection was a snap. The touch pad has some cool shortcuts that’s easy to learn. I bought an external opticle drive and made recovery discs without a problem. The smaller keyboard took a little getting used to but works just fine with a nice tactile feel. The screen is bright and beautiful.

This netbook was not as pictured by Acer. The battery is large and heavy and fits on the hinge of the netbook, sticking out much further than the measurements given. I was not happy with it and returned it immediately.

Bought this for travel. It gets the job done. I initially loaded a lot of programs on it. It seriously slowed down the system. It was taking like a few minutes just to open up a browser. So, I uninstall the everything to only keep the basic programs.

It is perfect if you only need to use the internet and send/receive emails.

    Good little laptop
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
There are a lot of reviews, so I’ll cover the highlights:

Did a lot of research between this, samsung nc-10, and a few other models, and settled on this one. Honestly, they’re all pretty much the same, with the distinction of the newer models come with bluetooth. I was on the fence waiting for windows 7 to come preinstalled, but I got impatient, and I wasn’t sure how long it would take before they would release it with windows 7. One change I made was to swap out the ram for a 2GB chip before I even started it, booted it up, and away I went.

Keyboard is a bit smaller than used too, but it was primarily for the wife, so not a big issue. I think I’d get used to after a few hours, just a little less wiggle room for touch typing than I was used to. There was some ‘crapware’, mostly games, and I’m not a fan of mcaffee, so removed & installed avast & comodo instead. Runs great, and as long as you get that it’s not supposed to be a powerhouse, you’ll be fine. The weight is very nice, my wife will be taking with her to hospital & other places, so compared to my old laptop (17″ screen), its barely there!

We love it & think you won’t go wrong on this. Glossy finish shows fingerprints, but it looks good. Screen is really nice, sharp, beautiful colors. Touchpad is seamless, which is nice so that you don’t get crumbs in the cracks (sitting on the couch.. it happens), and build quality seems pretty solid.

    Installed Windows 7 Easily!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ll keep this short since so many other great reviews exist.

The netbook is fantastic. Very speedy and the screen is super sharp (1024 x 680) and easy to see. They keyboard takes a little getting used to, especially for me since I use shortcut keys all the time and hitting Shift, Control, Alt, or Fn is a little tricky — but that’s going to be the case with any netbook.

The big thing for me was being able to install Windows 7 on it. It took it beautifully! No glitches, and everything worked perfectly on the first try. I did not have to manually install a single driver! (I installed by plugging in a USB DVD drive.)

The battery life is impressive! Just remember you won’t get 8 hours if you’ve got WiFi turned on. FYI, the battery is over half the weight of the device.

This little guy is now my travel companion, and a great test for Windows 7. Now I just need to get an AC adaptor for my car.

    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I went into Best Buy, and a salesman quickly tried to talk me out of buying a Netbook to begin with. To go with a cheap full-sized laptop — imagine that, pricier than the Netbooks!

I found this on sale at Walmart. For $300+, I said to hell with it. It’s worth the risk. Boy, was the salesperson wrong! I used this extremely light Netbook for documents, surfing the web, and streaming videos. It won’t stream HD videos well, but with such a small screen resolution, you really don’t see a difference with standard quality.

I picked up a friend’s full-sized laptop, and after having such a light-weight version, her’s felt like a ton of bricks! I would never go back to a regular laptop if it wasn’t for the lack of CD-rom drive on the netbook. I keep all my files on an external drive to keep it running fast.

The battery life is exactly as advertised (I had trouble running it dead the first three times – as the directions recommend!), the keyboard is large and comfortable, the monitor is bright and clear, and the little guy weighs almost nothing!!! I’m a teacher, I just throw him in my bag everyday (he weighs less than my teacher’s editions!). The processing speed is faster than my full size laptop, and the functionality… well, you just can’t beat it!!! Buy this one!!! Like I said, THE BEST $360 BUCKS I EVER SPENT!!!
