Amazing knives!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I cook pretty often and spent weeks looking at reviews online for knives. I knew I had a budget, wanted forged knives, a set that included steak knives and a block. This was the best set I found- it includes every knife I would want and a sharpener (very important) and is made with high quality carbon steel. I make sure I wash these and dry them immediately after use and I’ve had no problems with them so far. They are easy to sharpen, look great, and are well-balanced. Altogether, a great value.

Any good, expensive set of knives should always be HAND WASHED and dried. NEVER put them in the dishwasher. This will cause problems.

They rust!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
They Chicago Cutlery Landmark 12-Piece Knife Block Set all have gotten full of rust spots. I have old wood-handled chicago cutlery, which doesn’t rust. I received the brand new set as a gift, but I’m disappointed that they are covered with rust since the first time through the dishwasher. The company doesn’t care, I called and they told me to get barkeeper’s friend to remove the rust, and to wash and dry them by hand. Really!!! My old set goes through the DW perfectly!

I bought this set after having a set for years. Hand washing has always been the way to treat a good knife, so that didn’t bother me. I own several expensive sets that I am not nearly as happy with. I see no dark spots, and if I had found the block defective, I would have returned it. These are good for me and good for wedding presents and other gift ideas. These knives, like all the other knives in my possession, need care. You can’t buy a shiny new car and scrub the paint with a wire pad, and you can’t ignore the care of these knives unless you want them to be dull. If you follow the care directions you should be very happy with these knives for years to come. Enjoy!

Great knives for a Great Price!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought these for a wedding present and they loved it (or at least they acted like it). So I can’t really speak to the performance of this particular set. However, I own a different set of Chicago Cutlery and LOVE them! They are super sharp and stay that way. When the time comes, you have the steel right in the block. They stay handy on the countertop with the block to put them in and don’t get all scratched up rubbing against each other in the drawer. You could pay LOTS more for a set of knives, but I don’t think they’d be any better than these.

Treat them well and they are great!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Growing up in the 50′s, my dad was a butcher. Chicago Cutlery knives were the only ones he used in his meat market. When I married in 1975, we bought a set of these knives. We still use them today and consider them to be one of our most important kitchen tools. Proper care for knives is very important if you want them to last, if you want them to stay sharp, and if you don’t want them to cut you. Most cuts come from relatively dull knives as you struggle to cut meat, onions, celery, etc. They should be hand washed and dried, and stored in a block or on a magnetic rack. One should never store them in a drawer where they can get damaged running into other utensils, or they can/will cut you if you are careless getting them from the drawer. The dishwasher will ruin these knives, so take a couple minutes to protect your investment and treat them well.

Nice, inexpensive, sharp set!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased the set from another store while it was on sale. This was my first “expensive” knife set and didn’t want to spend too much. I think it is a good deal for the $100 range. I’ve only had for a month and it is working great so far. The blades are super sharp and they look really cool. I think some reviewers consider them “cheap” because they don’t weigh much, especially the steak knives. They are well balanced though and sure get the job done. I would recommend to anyone looking for a good starter set or who doesn’t cook too much. Be sure to hand wash only. As long as you get in the habit of cleaning them after each use and sharpening them from time to time, this set should last a very long time. Cheers!

Love my new knife set. They are easy to clean with no crevices to hold any food. They are sizes that I really use. The only one that I have not found really usable is the curved blade one. Haven’t felt comfortable with it yet. Other than that I highly recommend this set.Chicago Cutlery Landmark 12-Piece Knife Block Set

Just got the set and I’m really impressed. They have a good weight and balance and seem well made. I’ve seen a few reviews that complain about water/rust spots after diswashing. These knives are hand wash only! The manual was very clear that they were’t dishwasher safe. Should be the last set of knives I buy!
Great product!

I bought these knives 6 months ago and remain impressed with their durability and sharpness, I have yet to need to resharpen one of them. They look great on the countertop!

Beautiful. But…..
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
These knives look awesome in my kitchen! But I was a little disappointed that they didn’t come sharper. They claim “ready to use” but I had sharpen them to my standards. The company was great to deal with. The first block that came to me was a little damaged. But when I called the company (world kitchen) to let them know about my problem, they sent me a brand new block at no further cost to me. I would buy from this company again!

Wash by hand people!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I keep reading the negative reviews on these knives where people are complaining about the rust spots. Well, folks the directions plainy state WASH AND DRY BY HAND! I’ve never put quality pots, pans, or knives in the dishwasher. It ruins them!
I’ve had these knives for 6 months and LOVE THEM! I sharpen them each time I take them out and wash by hand before I put them back and they are GREAT! Kudos to Chicago Cutlery!
UPDATE 14 May 2009: 2 years later still no rust and the blades are still sharp. GREAT SET OF KNIVES!

Very nice set of knives but DO NOT wash in the dishwasher. Ours rusted after a few washes then the company told us that they’re not made to withstand the heat of a dishwasher. Very dissappointing.
Other than the bits of rust, the knives are very nice and very sharp!

Good not great value for the money
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Like another reviewer, I was swayed by the recommendations of CR. Unlike several of the other reviewers, I have not yet experienced the problems encountered by them. So far, no rust spots, but I hand wash & dry immediately after use. When the set arrived the block, while not exceptional, was undamaged, and again, so far, the guides have not come loose. Perhaps customer complaints have led to a resolution to this problem?
Having never had a “real” set of knives to compare these to makes a ranking difficult. However, I am satisfied for the return on the money I spent. On a further, note, my daughter, who is in culinary school, stated that these knives are a little on the lightweight side, but the balance (feel) appears good, and that they cut very well.
UPDATE: I’ve had this set a year now. So far no problems and I am very satisfied with my purchase. I’ve had no rust: I DON’T put ‘em in the dishwasher; I hand wash & dry immediately. I still hold to my initial assessment: This set is a good, not great, value for the money.

Great Product

This product is great. Like any fine knife set it has to be cared for in a proper way. Price wise it compares with German knives costing twice the price. For the money you can not beat this product.

The Block is of very poor quality and is Damaged and put together very poorly. I do not recomend buying this product. I expected much more from Chicago Cutlery.I am very disappointed. I Thought the knives would cut like a knife through warm butter. Well that is not happening.

Wonderful Set and Great Buy
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The knives are better than expected, sharp, comfortable on your hands and a great bargain for the price. In fact, we purchased an additional set of the steak knives. They are really sharp as well. The free $75 worth of Omaha Steaks was an additional plus for the purchase, too. We highly recommend these knives and hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Pretty, sharp, but don’t wash em’
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
They were great, until I washed them. Now they have little brown spots all over them. It looks like rust to me. Since you kind of need to wash your knives now and again, I would say to avoid these. Unless you’re looking for a good, rusty knife, then they’re the tops.

Poor quality
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This knife set for a new product, is very diappointing. I’m returning mine. Out of the box it looked cheap. I agree with other reviewer that the little plastic inserts on the block don’t stay in. You have to peal if off the knife everytime you pull a knife out, to put it back on the block-CC needs to try some glue to hold them in. CC makes much nicer sets for less money-this would be a hassle to use to use and why pay more a poorer set?

Great Knife set – good quality overall
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I like the knives. The sharpener works well. These are hand-wash-only knives. Take good care of them and they will take good care of you.
For $100+ – I was surpised that they were Chinese made. The block is ok – not up to German, American or Japanese/Korean standards (slight imperfections). The knives are well designed and with proper care – sharp and very good to work with.
I would have preferred American Made (Chicago cutlery used to be 100% American Made) but that would probably have been 3-5x the price.
Overall I am happy with the knives and will tolerate the imperfect block with it.

Do not buy!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After revewing knife sets and checking CR recommendations I decided to purchase this set. CR said that Chicago cutlery was the way to go if you do not want to spend a small fortune on knifes that were still of decent quality.
This is the first time I buy something that did not have a review and the first time I write a review because I was so upset with the quality. The knife are not sharp, and they rust – and the block is cumbersome and the inserts that hold the knifes come out – it was actually missing one when it arrived.
I hastened to open it and set it up before I noticed, otherwise, if I still had the box, I would have returned it.
