Cartridge Puller Really Works
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I tried and tried to pull out the old cartridge but was unsuccessful. After reading the favorable reviews I decided to order it. I had a difficult time on step one — unloosening the nut at the top of the puller — but once I did that and followed the instructions, the old cartridge came right out. Hopefully I will not need this for our other showers but it any event I will have it available and highly recommend it. It really works!!!

MOEN cartridge replacment made easy

Great tool, easy to use and it worked without any problems. The cost may come back as special benefits (see below).
I am retired and living in Florida. Out guest bathroom doesn’t get too much use for about 9 months. The inevitable happened, the mineral deposits in the water and the hot weather caused the shower control to develop mineral deposits and not work.
While pricing replacement cartridges, I saw that people had purchased this cartridge pulling tool. Having tried to repace stuck cartridges before I knew that this could be a difficult job. The house design did not have a water shut off for the shower by itself and I had to turn off the entire house. If the repair developed into a problem area I would have all of the water turned off for a long time.
In using the tool, it did not pull out with just the first step, so I went on to the part using the large nut to break the seal. It came out in about 30 seconds. I have passed on the information of the problem of not exercising the water controls frequently to all my friends to help prevent this problem.
A large number of them want to borrow me and the tool when they have problems.
I have a possible limitless supply of beer in my future!

Removed stuck cartridge without any problems

My shower stopped getting hot water so I did some searching online and the information I read indicated that the cartridge inside needed to be replaced.
I tried using pliers to remove the old cartridge, after removing the retaining clip and outer sleeve, but it just wouldn’t budge.
When I used this tool I was able to get the old cartridge out within a minute or two of twisting it from side to side and turning the screw while pulling it out slowly.
It is expensive but it did the job and it was cheaper than hiring a plumber.

A bit pricey for something I doubt we’ll ever need again — or at least not for another 5-10 years by which time it will be buried so deep in the shop I’ll never find it. It cost as much as the replacement cartridge.
Without it, we were unsuccessful at pulling the cartridge after 20 minutes. With it, the cartridge popped out nearly instantly. Huge difference!

A litte expensive but it does the job much better than the plastic puller that comes with the Moen Cartridge, especially if the cartridge is hard to get broke loose.

I would have been in big trouble without this tool… with the faucet disassembled and unable to get the cartridge out, using this tool was the ONLY way, period. If your single handle shower is old, there’s a good chance the cartridge is stuck. If you run into this, then close everything back up, and turn on the water again, order this tool and reschedule the project.
The videos on the Moen website are helpful too, but they don’t mention this tool!

MOEN 104421 Cartridge Puller, for 1225 Single Handle Cartridge
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I tried the plastic part that came with the cartridge. Of course, it broke. So, I purchased this metal cartridge puller. It made short work of extracting the old cartridge and worked as advertised. Just make sure and follow directions to the letter and don’t tighten too much because it will bend or break the cartridge piece the puller fits into.

My in-laws had a few older Moen faucets which reached time to be lubricated or replaced since they were difficult to operate and one leaked. Using regular tools, I was unable to get the bathroom sink faucet cartridge to move at all due to the age of the faucet and very hard water (deposits). That faucet got replaced before I got the tool.
The leaky shower faucet cartridge was extracted using this tool according to the instructions. However, after “loosening” the cartridge, it was still impossible to pull it by hand. Continuing to turn the extractor nut pulled the cartridge out and revealed that the rubber seals on the cartridge body had stuck to the inside of the casting and had been shredded by pulling the cartridge out past them. Without this tool, the wall would have to been broke open to solder on a new valve body – luckily, this tool saved me from having to give that news to my father-in-law!!
