Perfect size & the birdies love the perches! It gives them a chance to rest. Very easy to clean.

    Hummingbirds DELIGHT in these feeders!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I LOVE these feeders and have 7 of them. They are easy to clean if you know the secret. I disassemble the parts and put them in a big Pyrex bowl filled with water and a little bleach. I let them soak there a while and fill the bottle part with water and a little bleach as well. During the soaking, I stir up the bowl a few times and then empty and rinse, repeat several times and let air dry. For the glass bottles I shake the bleach solution up real hard and then rinse a few times and let them air dry. There’s no scrubbing needed. The black moldy stuff that sometimes forms pretty quickly here in hot and humid southern Louisiana just dissolves away in the bleach water cleaning solution. I have more feeders than I can hang so that I can keep clean spares at the ready to swap out while I clean the others. I have other types of feeders but the price, ease of cleaning, insect guards and availability of spare parts makes these my favorite and the hummers love ‘em too!

    PS

Tie a BOWLINE knot in the wire hanger thingy and it won’t come undone without a little work.

    My favorite Hbird feeder
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This has been my most used feeder for over 20 years. Unlike many of the Perky Pet feeders, the base opens up, and it can be visually, mechanically cleaned. I use a hummingbird feeder sponge mop or brush on the bottle, and a regular dishwashing sponge mop for glasses, a toothbrush, a finger, and either a Q-tip or hummingbird portal brush for cleaning the parts of the base. This keeps the solution clear for extended periods. Hummingbirds definitely like the perches, and I’ve never seen or heard of a hummer being injured on it. It’s easy to tell when they’re empty, and I mix the solution up fresh, inside the bottle, with cold tap water. I haven’t had significant problems with bees or wasps. The size is good for small numbers of birds, but I have to add larger feeders during peak migration in late August and early September. I have 7 of these, and use all of them during the peak fall migration, scattered around the house to try to decrease jousting. Replacement parts are available.

    Easy to Use and Clean
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The best thing about this feeder is that it won’t collect rainwater like most other feeders, diluting the nectar and discouraging the hummers.

Contrary to an earlier negative review, this feeder is easy to disassemble and clean. A touch of bleach will removed any mold and wash away quickly under the faucet. I’ve use one feeder for three or four years. Careful treatment is all that’s needed. We also have little trouble with bees.

The birds seems to love it. We have a swarm of them that amaze our guests.

    hummers favorite feeder!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve tried several different feeders, different styles, etc. but this is by far our hummingbirds favorite feeder! They flock to it. I have 4 of these hanging up & in August I get so many hummers that I have to fill each feeder twice a day! When I’ve put out other feeders the hummers ignore them. Also this is the only feeder that I know that won’t allow the water to get in & dilute the solution when it rains. My sister didn’t believe me when she moved in next door & I told her that she better use this feeder. She bought all different “pretty” feeders. Needless to say she didn’t get much action at her feeders. She’s now coverted to this feeder & they’re swarming at her place too! Make sure that you order this feeder WITH THE PERCHES!

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We’ve tried a lot of different styles of hummingbird feeders over the past 20 years or so and have determined that this particular configuration is the best all around for both convenience and utility. Moreover, with shipping charges tallied into the equation, the prices at P & M International were the lowest offered on the Internet.

Addendum: We always make sure we keep twice as many feeders as we hang. That way we always have clean ones ready when fresh nectar is needed.

    Best I’ve found~by far!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have two of these feeders and yes… they aren’t the easiest to clean… but so far this is by far my favorite feeder, and I’ve tried many. The hummingbirds love it, and with an ant guard on top it stays very clean. I bought a tiny bottle brush and bent it in a 90 degree angle, and it works just fine on cleaning the bottle’s tough-to-get-at shape. I too have used the saucer shaped feeders, and while the hummingbirds loved it, so did the squirrels. During the really hot, drought months, I would see squirrels hanging off the thing, emptying it of all the nectar. Who knew squirrels would drink that stuff… but they do. They also broke the perch off in several places on the saucer model. So far, they have left this one alone.

I have always liked this feeder. The perches allow them to sit & drink, giving you a good look at them. The 8 oz is nice since the feeders should be cleaned once a week. I used to have large feeders but I could never get more than one Hummer to feed at a time. They will drive others away while they feed. I sure do enjoy seeing these aggressive little “puppies”.

Perky Pet Feeders are well made & parts are available if you break part of it.

This hummingbird feeder is just what we needed! So far, no hummingbirds but I anticipate them to come with the warmer weather. The only complaint I have is there are no instructions for setting up the feeder and the bee guards do not lock in place. Otherwise this is a great product and I know many people who have had success with this feeder.

    Best Feeders!!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve been feeding hummingbirds for a decade or more, and I have tried all sorts of feeders. I’ve even received fancy high priced feeders as gifts. But I am sold on the Perky Pet model. It doesn’t clog. There is no straw that misses the bottom third of the solution. I have no problem cleaning it with little brushes, and most the time it just needs a rinsing. The birds love them, I have hummers buzzing all around the outside of the house and they are a joy to see and hear.

For anyone new to feeding – you have to get the mix right – too strong and you’ll attract ants and yellow jackets. Too weak and the birds may not find it. The exact right mix for very happy birds is:

1 part sugar, 4 parts water.

There is no need for dyes!! The sugar should be the plain white common kind. Mix the sugar with 2 parts hot water, then let it dissolve for a few minutes, then add the second 2 parts cold water and fill feeders. They are ready to hang again, the solution should not be too hot for the birds.

Why spend more or search longer? These work great and last for years.

    no manual, cheap construction
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’ll have to echo the other bad reviews on this item. Unfortunately, I did not read them before purchasing. Assembling a hummingbird feeder should not be difficult and probably shouldn’t require an instruction sheet. However, this feeder was frustrating to assemble. There wasn’t even a picture on the box. It’s also hard to fill and clean. It looks cheap and I really don’t expect it to last very long.

This style of hummingbird feeder is the birds’ favorite by far, so when my husband broke our feeder i immediately ordered two of the same type. Each feeder is supposed to have 4 yellow bee guards for a total of eight. These feeders were shipped with only six! Each feeder was missing a crucial component – so back they went! I also found these $3 cheaper at my local PetSmart and incurred no shipping charges either.

    Excellent feeder…
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It’s difficult in our area to buy feeders w/perches so this one is great; we like to watch the hummers at rest. I’m happy to have found them at Amazon! We’ve had our identical original Perky Pet pinch waist feeders over 6 years now ~ just ordered up another!

They’ve held up very well; one hangs in an east-facing tree the other faces west. Hanging in dappled light the solution stays fresher longer and plastic parts don’t degrade in the sun. The red ‘flower’ part can be removed if you don’t care for the look.

Cleaning has never been a problem with this model. Besides the perches, that’s the other reason why I’ve been searching for more of these feeders. I’ve always put the parts in the dishwasher and just don’t use the heat cycle to dry (bee guards in silverware compartment).

I fill it with a 1:4 sugar/water ratio; NO food coloring; boiled and cooled. This feeder holds just about 1 cup of solution. Mix 1/4 c sugar to 1 c hot water, stir to dissolve and boil. If making larger proportion just keep remaining amount covered and refrigerated until needed.

To prevent ant visitors I coat a metal hanger with Vaseline or Tanglefoot Pest Barrier before hooking the loop of the feeder onto it.

re: hanging assembly ~ make a knot in one end of the plastic coated hanging wire (which comes packaged inside the glass feeder) using pliers (if needed, I didn’t) to tighten down. Unscrew the red lid from top of feeder and slip the straight end from the bottom of lid up through the hole. Bend to make a small loop at end of the straight part, wrapping free end once or twice around base of loop to secure the wire. Screw lid back onto glass feeder portion. Screw perch onto the bottom of feeder base with provided screw, fill glass w/nectar, screw on base, upend, and hang loop onto a wire hanger.

re: bee guards ~ though customer service is very helpful w/bee guard issues, they can be purchased relatively inexpensively at many nature, pet, or discount stores…

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Wow, it took the hummingbirds about 2 days to learn it was there (3rd Floor blacony) but once they found it became a sensation.

These hummingbirds are always around now and they have no problem drinking from this thing. They are even fighting over it but I guess that is normal.

The product itself seems well made but there were NO instructions whatsoever (not even a picture on the box). OK its pretty easy to put it together but I thought that was weird. The “cord” that comes with it is pretty bad too so I had to create my own system with a hook so I can hang and take it down easily.

I am giving this 5 stars because it works well, is very cheap, and the birds love it. 4.5 is more like it though.

We and other family members have tried various hummingbird feeders through the years, and we always come back to this type. Get the glass tube and this type of flowers where the hummingbirds feed! Hummingbirds seem to like it the best, it’s the easiest I’ve had to clean (with a small brush), and lasts the longest. I’m now buying them as gifts for other people.

    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have had one of these for about ten years and only purchased another because the bees started robbing it and had lost the bee gaurds. Hummers have no trouble getting past them but bees and finches are kept out. The bottom is easy to overtighten and strip so some care must be taken there. Tighten until the threads just bottom out and it should last for years. Only real drawback is it’s kind of a pain to clean inside of bottle because of the shape.

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This type of hummingbird feeder is a hummingbird choice. My “hummers” love to sit on the included perches at the base of the feeder. This feature is not always included with this style, and I was delighted to find the perched style once again. Since replacing the brand I was forced to use, Our “hummers” have returned in happy numbers. The price was the cheapest I have ever found. My only complaint is that it is too easy to over screw the caps on the bottles, but a slight hand overcomes that problem.I also love the fact that the bottles are glass and easy to clean.

    Excellent Feeder, Excellent Price
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love this feeder and so do the hummingbirds! Last year I had a different type (plastic bottle and without perches) and only had the occasional hummingbird. This year I bought one of the Perky Pet Pinch Waist feeders and I had a hummingbird in less than 20 minutes, within a week I bought two more to keep up with demand. I like the design of the feeder – the “pinched waist” gives it a little bit of character, and the size is large enough to be practical without being invasive. The three feeders are suspended by plant hooks under the eaves on the deck, which places them very close to the house. I have 10 “regulars” and several “visitors” that feed from dawn to twilight every day. I have to fill the feeders every morning – because they are empty and the little buggers have taken to scolding me when I’m not up early enough for their breakfast! I make half a gallon of nectar (4 parts water to 1 part sugar, brought to a low boil to extend freshness, per the wild bird experts) twice a week – yes that’s a full gallon. I thought about getting larger capacity feeders, but this way I can do a hot water rinse of the bottle and reservoir every day and a thorough cleaning weekly. Although ants and hornets are a problem in our area, so far they haven’t discovered the hummingbird feeders.

When I have company they are absolutely fascinated by the “show” they get from these cheeky little birds. They bicker (loudly), display, duel and chest bump each other to establish territory (the hummingbirds, not my guests). Some of them will share willingly with others and sit side-by-side at the feeder; some don’t want any other hummers – at any of the feeders – while they are feeding. Most will perch, some will not. Most are used to me at the kitchen window and don’t seem bothered when I watch them feed less than two feet away. I don’t know how long the feeders will last, but for the price and the entertainment value, even if I have to replace them next year, it’s been money well spent.

We’ve tried a lot of models; expensive, ornate, etc. Our hummers turned up their beaks at all of them except this model. We’ve enjoyed many hours watching them land on the perches to feed. The only downfall is the plastic doesn’t last and we have to replace the feeder usually yearly. Fortunately they aren’t overly expensive.

All Perky Pet glass, clinched waist feeders have an inner part that connects the red bottom to the feeder itself – it’s a circular small plastic insert with threads that screw on the bottle top. In every feeder I have bought this part seems to shrink in a very short time and then the bottom falls off the feeder. I wrote Perky Pets and they said they do not have replacement parts for hummingbird feeders so I give this feeder and the whole company a big F. It’s a lousy product and the company won’t back themselves up.

We’ve had this feeder for a year and have had good success attracting hummingbirds with it. The bright red color apparently does a good job luring them to our window. It’s a little inconvenient to clean but I don’t mind because my wife does it.

We have it hanging on a hanging device attached to a deck rail in front of a window. The only problem with this set up is that I can barely see the hummingbirds who invariable decide to perch on the opposite side of the feeder.

Watching the hummingbirds is a joy. It might be a good idea to add a water baffle to the top to discourage ants. It really works.

Without these, and this is about the only one I know of with these, at least this type, you attract ALL KINDS OF BEES so bad sometimes the hummer can’t get a word in edge wise. The guards are a pain cause sometimes they fall off and get lost or you just have to keep putting them back, but you can get replacements and this one works good. Kind of hard to clean, but overall if you want to attract hummers with a reliable performer, this is it.

One of my least favortie hummingbird feeders

The fact that this is one of the most popular hummingbird feeders on the market is mostly due to its wide availability, cheap price, and gaudy styling rather than its quality. I used these feeders for years before discovering better designs, and I came to hate them. The first thing I noticed was that they’re hard to clean, with too many small parts and hard-to-reach tubes and crevices. It takes way too long to take the feeder apart, get all the parts clean, and reassemble it.

The next thing that became apparent is that the “bee guards” really don’t do a very good job. Honeybees and wasps can’t reach the solution through intact guards, but some long-tongued bumblebees can, and tiny bees just crawl right through the guards (and often right into the bottle!). They’re also bright yellow, the same color as many bee-pollinated flowers (what was the manufacturer thinking?). The insects really swarm around when the solution oozes out, as it’s prone to do on warm days (particularly if you refill the bottle with refrigerated solution).

It didn’t take long to discover that this feeder is also not very durable. The plastic parts don’t hold up to exposure to sunlight, becoming brittle and loose over time (more quickly in sunny or high-elevation areas, where intense UV light seems to deteriorate the plastic more quickly). The hardened glass bottle is actually the most durable part of this feeder, while the bee guards are the first parts to break down. The size is okay, though if you’ve only got one or two hummingbirds visiting you won’t want to fill the feeder completely.

The best hummingbird feeders cost about twice as much as this model, but they will last at least 10 times as long. The feeders I use most now are the Hummzingers from Aspects and the Droll Yankees LF, both saucer-style feeders. For high-traffic times such as late summer, I switch to the Nature’s Best bottle feeder. I never use anything in my feeders except the solution recommended by all hummingbird experts: sugar water made from 3 to 5 parts water to 1 part white table sugar (do not add food coloring!). This is much more economical and probably also healthier (and tastier) for the birds than overpriced chemical-laced commercial mixes such as Perky Pet’s “Instant Nectar.” The solution should be changed every 2 to 4 days and the feeder cleaned thoroughly at least once a week, no matter what kind of hummingbird feeder you use.

The hummingbird feeder is a good design liked very much by my visiting hummers. The design allows easy access by hummers while repelling other insects.
