    Nice Large Size
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Was pleased when I saw the size of the feeder. Reminds me of a flying saucer. It is the 10th of Sep. 09′ here in Southeastern Illinois. Just replaced the feeder I had because it leaked. So I read the description of the Perky Pet 221 and was pleased it said the bottom screwed into the top of the feeder. Guess what ?? Got the feeder and was disappointed that it snapped together. Put it up anyway so maybe some migrating Hummers may stop for a rest along with a drink. Noticed the feeder hangs crooked so I got in my junk drawer and found 2 old Master keys for locks I no longer have. I took a paperclip and made it into an S-shape and hung the keys on the rests of the feeder. Nice and level now. I’m sure the Hummer’s will love the feeder. I still see a few around in my apartment complex.

    Almost perfect…
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought two of these feeders and the hummingbirds have loved them. I like them too–they are easy to clean, easy to fill, durable and, as mentioned, well received by the birds. The only slight complaint I have is that when the water level begins to go down, the feeders hang slightly crooked on the hooks provided. They do not, however, leak. It is just an asthetic thing…the manufacturer had it SO close to perfect; why couldn’t they have corrected this slight flaw? But they are the best I have seen…I’ve been through several more “decorative” feeders and also the more traditional tube-style feeders and this one is the clear winner.

Great product! Very easy to clean and refill. Light weight and no glass — broke too many of the traditional glass feeders. Gave two to friends and kept two for ourselves. Our hummingbirds enjoy the feeder in between their rounds of visiting the many flowers in our garden. Will buy more such that our five territorial hummingbirds can have one feeder for each.

    good feeder.
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This was the second hummingbird feeder I tried out this year. The first was the upside down bottle type and we had nothing but problems with it. The birds used it, but the feeder leaked horribly bad and made a terrible mess. So I decided to give this style a try. At first I was nervous because the birds weren’t using it, but I decided to be patient. After about a week, I saw one little guy hovering above the feeder eating. After that I slowly started to see more and more. At first they didn’t use the perches at all, but after a few more weeks they seemed to figure out what they were for. Now I see on average 25-35 hummingbirds a day. They love this feeder. Since it has the perches they spend a long time at it. It is not uncommon for the same bird to be perched for a couple minutes. This feeder is easy to clean too. My only complaint is that when the wind blows, the feeder does tend to leak a little from where the top and bottom snap together. They should have designed it a little better so there is no leaking. But the leaking is minimal, so I just live with it. Other than that, this feeder works very well, and the birds seem to love it!

    A great feeder!

This was the third feeder that I purchased. One was metal, and it got rust in the feeding tray. Not good! The second one dripped all over our deck, and the sweet syrupy water attracted hundreds of ants…and no hummingbirds.

So I read all the reviews and decided to go for this one. It is great…only have gotten two hummingbirds thus far but it is getting late in the season so hope for more next year. But this one does not rust, does not drip sticky water on deck, and it is simple and does the job well. Highly recommend!

Great feeder if you have bee problems. Easy to clean and refill. Only problem is that the feeder does not hang evenly so the nectar is lower on one side and the birds can’t reach it. I solved the problem by putting a rubber band around the top and adjusting where it humg using the band as a guide. Bit of a hassle but it’s the only feeder I’ve found that the bees don’t get all over.

I bought this because (1) the tall one I bought a while back leaks from time to time (2) the bully resident hummer would not let other hummers get near it. I have a few hummers hanging out at the back of the house year round, so I now hang both of them at opposite ends of the deck so the less aggressive ones get a chance to get an easy meal.

Be prepared for hummingbird territory wars!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I had dreams of this feeder being full of hummingbirds, but that’s only because I didn’t know much about hummingbirds. They are actually very competitive about their food sources. If one hummingbird can see another one, neither will drink as they chase each other to try to get exclusive rights. Other feeders with multiple drinking spots have a large post in the middle, which keeps the birds from seeing each other while they’re drinking. If you really want to have many birds at once, get one of those. With this one, I get very excited if I see two on there at once. It’s a big deal! But, then again, I do get to see lots of hummingbird territory wars.

Though we have MANY hummingbirds in our yard we have repeatedly watched them take a look at this feeder then fly away without eating. We have moved it to new spots hoping that was the problem, but nothing.

Is it the Hummers or is it I?
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
At this time in 2008 our yards were a haven for over 12 hummers so it off to the Amazon hummer store. We bought 2 new ones including the Pet 221. My first reaction was this will be just perfect for them because they can sit while eating and even thought the construction is somewhat shoddy it would work well for the birds. The little area to collect ants is well placed.

So now comes spring and hummers we were excited to watch them and their new eating holes. We made no changes to the formula or any other item except the feeder itself. No hummers. Well, almost no hummers. A ruby red buzzed us several times at each location but would not feed. One day while putting one of last years feeders one actually sat on the feeder while I was emptying it into the plants. He fed and told me he did not like the new ones. Well, not really. But why would one hummer feed from the old and not from the new. Right now it is time to retire the new feeders and revert to the old. It is possible that the new has an odor in the plastic that the hummers do not like. I do not know. For now this has been a waste of money.

BEST HUMMINGBIRD FEEDER WE’VE EVER SEEN
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It is incredible enough to see hummers do their “hit, hover & run” at a feeder. BUT – to have them PERCH – to sit around 4 to 6 at a time without attacking each other makes for some real enjoyment and some great pictures. We have this hung outside of our kitchn window, and watch as they perch & eat from 12″ away. Keeps nectar freshar longer with the dark red top. HIGHLY recommended!

    Feeder for a Windy Area
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We have had difficulty finding a retail outlet that sells this “flat” hummingbird feeder. Thankfully, Amazon.com markets this one at a very competitive price. We’ve decided that the “traditional” bottle-type swings in the wind too much for this area, spilling the contents on the patio or soil. I pound a reinforcement steel bar in the soil, then slip a piece of PVC pipe over that, paint it a neutral color, and position this feeder atop that. The re-bar is rigid, so it doesn’t sway in the wind. Our hummingbirds love these feeders.

    Easy to clean
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
There are several good reasons why this feeder is better than the typical bottle style. The biggest is that it is very easy to clean, no brushes needed. I withheld a star because the flat bowl can cause a little sloshing when returning the feeder to it’s hanging spot, but it does not drip, a plus. The second feature is that is has a small reservior that can be filled with water to keep down the number of insects marching into the feeder holes. Unfortuntately, in hot weather that reservior tends to evaporate, but I still like it. The third is that it doesn’t have the large capacity of some, which, although that may sound odd, requires that our little friends get fresh nectar more often. Very important in hot weather.

Just a note, I certainly don’t wish to smash sales of the nectar mixes, but table sugar without coloring is perfectly acceptatable and a lot cheaper, once the hummers are initially attracted to the feeder. This feeder cover has a lot of red and probably does not need colored nectar at all.

    Poor Quality
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I ordered two of these as gifts and each had a single broken perch. The boxes were in excellent shape. The broken perches were in the same position in relation to the logo printed on top, which leads me to believe there is a quality issue at the manufacturer.

The perches seem very flimsy anyway, even for a hummer. The rest of the assembly is OK. I’m going to return them both and find a traditional glass upright feeder locally.

    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
For the price, this is a good hummingbird feeder, but it is much flimsier than the more expensive ones that I’ve bought in the past. I bought 2, and one of them hangs crookedly and consequently can’t be filled all the way up.

A sanitary, safe feeder for Hummers
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This feeder is SO easy to keep clean! The sugar water one feeds hummers is a great medium to grow bacteria. The hummers will inoculate it with their tongue when they drink from it. So, every time I refill it,(every 3 or 4 days) I can take it apart…as easy as lifting a lid off a pot! Clean it out with vinegar, rinse it well, refill it and set it back out for my hummers. Done! The water mote to keep the ants out must work. I haven’t seen an ant since I got this feeder. What a unique style this feeder is! Ashville, NC

My hummingbirds have not returned to my yard since I put up this new feeder. I had birds with another feeder that gave out, but they have now gone to the flowers in my neighbor’s yard instead. Maybe their beaks are not long enough to reach the liquid.

    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This thing is great! If I remember, I’ll upload some pics. Totally easy to clean. the clear bottom and red top separate and its just a big space to easily wipe out – no nooks or crannies to worry about. Everything seems pretty solid and sturdy, and it is a bit bigger than I thought it’d be, which is not a bad thing. The only negative is that the brass hook is too small to fit on my standard iron shepherd’s hook – I think someone else mentioned this too. No big problem though – I am just using one of those big plant s-hooks for now, and later I’ll get a smaller one (so it doesn’t hang quite so low). Other than that easily fixed issue, it’s great! Bought this to replace a standard ‘Best 1′ feeder.

    Another Winner for Hummingbird Feeding
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This feeder is very easy to clean and to fill. Lots of feeding stations. There are perches all around, and the hummingbirds appreciate this. Since there is no container above the feeding stations, you can see the birds from all angles, a big plus. This would be a 5 star product if the design was modified a bit. If the feeder was a bit smaller in circumference and a little deeper, it could still hold 16 ounces of nectar with slower evaporation and a little more stability when hanging. This is a good, functional feeder that’s reasonably priced.

This is a great hummer feeder. I also have an 8 oz size, but this 16 oz size lasts twice as long (no brainer there). It is easy to clean and you can see the birds better. We don’t hang ours since our deck is above tree line, but mount it from the bottom of the feeder.

    3rd and best feeder
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased those expensive ($35) and pretty glass ones and they didn’t work. This one works. Hummingbirds were feeding off of it in less than a week, and that’s all that matters.

    Edit (12/21/08):

I purchased a second one. The reason is that my hummingbirds are impatient (LOL) and they buzz around when I take down their feeder to clean it and put in fresh sugar water mix (see below for recipe). So now all I have to do is make the sugar water, pour it in the clean one and replace the clean one with the dirty one.

    Sugar Water Mix recipe:

Since the sugar water gets moldy in a week and I like to keep what I feed the hummingbirds fresh, I don’t put too much in the feeder. Here’s the recipe for 1 feeder (make a bigger batch if you want to store the rest in the fridge):

    1/4 sugar

3/4 water (this factors in evaporation when you boil it)

Either microwave to a boil or boil the solution on the stove. Wait for it to cool down and pour the solution in the feeder. (Use food coloring if you want to have some fun and give the solution some color … lol.)

Nice feeder, but not the best for hanging
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The feeder is nice, and the design makes it a breeze to clean.

One issue is that the way it’s made causes it to hang crooked, the nectar will move to one side and it will sit skewed, so there will only be nectar in one side, and the hummers aren’t heavy enough to tilt it back so they have to move around to the lower side where the nectar is. Otherwise it is a nice feeder.

It has a spot underneath to mount on top of a pole, and that wouold probably work best for this feeder as long as you don’t have ant problems.

I searched the web and originally liked the Humzingers, but thought they were a little pricey, and found this one that looked an awful lot like the humzinger, and at half the cost. My hummingbirds love it, and are back again this year, only now they can rest their wings while eating!

    Not-so-cheap knock-off
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This feeder is a cheaply made (but not cheap!) knock-off of the Aspects Hummzinger, a much more durable feeder without the yellow parts that can attract attract bees. After problems with Perky Pet feeders, I now use only all-red feeders and find that it doesn’t take new birds more than a few seconds to learn where the holes are (hummingbirds are a lot smarter than you think). For the same money or less you can get a feeder that’s more durable, even easier to clean, less likely to attract bees, and made by a company that doesn’t crank out cheap knock-offs or exploit you and the birds by marketing chemical-laced “instant nectar.”

    “Our” favorite feeder
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My hummers had no trouble switching from the basic bottle feeders to this saucer, and I love it because it’s the oh-so-easy to clean. The built in ant moat dries out rather quickly, but I basically fail to fill it anyway, and haven’t had any ant problems at all. I now have 2 of these feeders, that hang from shepherds hooks, and there’s no leakage problems whatsoever. Remember: change your sugar water frequently; every few days, to avoid spoilage. I highly recommend this feeder.

EDIT (04/2008): I wish this feeder came in 8oz, since I don’t really need 16oz, and don’t get that many hummers (unfortunately). But, I did also purchase a Hummzinger Fancy (12 oz), and surprisingly I just didn’t like it. It was easy to clean, but was deeper than the PPO, which didn’t appeal to me. I had put the Perky Pet on one hook on the south side of the house, and the HummZinger on the north side’s hook. The HummZinger didn’t get much activity, which was surprising since the hummers are used to both hooks having a feeder. After 2 weeks, I put the HummZinger away and went back to 2 PP’s. Activity resumed on the north hook…

Considering both feeders are outside from April to November, and rinsed in hot water for every cleaning, they’ve held up well. No cracking, minimal color fading, no flowers have needed replacement to date.

After reasearching all of the feeders, I was going to go with the Aspect Hummzinger but, I read that the birds have a hard time finding the flower since it was red like the rest of the feeder. I found this one with yellow flowers and decided to go with it instead. Wow, I had it out for less than an hour and I started seeing little hummers everywhere. I am so suprized! I had another new feeder out the day before that was a purple glass with a yellow flower and it was not even seen by the hummers. I am all for this feeder!!! Plus I am exiceted that it will be easy to clean. I don’t want anything that I have to buy a bottle bush to clean. I am so happy already!!!
