    Seam leaked after 2 months
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I received this as a gift and was very excited, since I was renovating my kitchen and could install it myself as part of the whole new sink drain assembly. Haven’t needed to use the no-clog handle, but after two months, I noticed last night that the plastic seam where the two parts of the trap assembly join, had started leaking. I’m sending it back and will see what the manufacturer says, but it’s only been 2 months and the seam joint has failed, so I’m not hopeful. Too bad, since I liked the idea of it and talked it up at my local plumbing supply.

    Junk, for the most part.

So, if you drop a ring, and, are smart enough to STOP all water from going down, you may find your diamond, in this trap.

Otherwise, traps are designed to “self cleanse”.

Chances a few, to none, that it may be there.

Having an honest to goodness, “Interceptcer”, like a dentist uses, is the ONLY way to capture valuables that have mistakenly gone down the drain…

    Hope this helps…

This kind of thing is just junk….

    Great for bathrooms
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Like most men, I have facial hair that requires the occasional trimming/shaving/shaping/modifying. I usually perform said maintenance over my bathroom sink. Unfortunately, everywhere I’ve ever lived and shaved at, the sink starts to clog. Doesn’t matter if I diligently remove move of the hair and throw it in the trash, some works its way into the drain and eventually slows the draining process, which means that I periodically need to run some Liquid Plumber down the drain.

This has always bothered me (and I’m sure the chemicals I’m dumping down the drain aren’t exactly helping the water supply), so I thought I’d look for a solution.

    Behold the PermaFLOW Never-Clog Drain.

I bought this during the holiday sale (did next to no research on it other than reading a few reviews) because it was about the price of the big Liquid Plumber and I figured it was worth a shot. It works.

Installation is simple. I needed a set of Channel lock Pliers to loosen the previous plastic piping; said piping (already starting to get clogged up again) was then dropped in my bucket while I installed the new P Trap. There are 2 sets of washers and nuts for each side, which I presume are sized for the most common pipes; the larger one fit mine nice and tight. I screwed it on hand tight then gave it an extra quarter turn. Flipped on the water, no leaks!

Then I read the instructions and learned the correct position for the internal piece, adjusted the wheel and the drain seemed to clear faster. Thus far (less than a month after installation), I have yet to notice any build up inside the pipe, however I know that if I did, I could just turn on the water and rotate the wheel to clear it.

great idea, easy five minute install, never clog!!!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
got this as a gift as requested. it took all of five minutes to install it. that includes getting a bucket to remove the existing p-trap. unscrew everything (no tools even needed)…take out old p-trap, put this one in…screwed everything back on.

turned on the water…watch it flow through…watch water fill in air to create sewer seal (as is intent of p-trap)…but, can see what is sitting in there if. If it ever gets clogged…turn the wheel…done!

for those that would rather replace a trap ($2-$4) everytime it gets clogged…or buy expensive chemicals or buy tools to snake in there…then, that’s your choice. for me $20 to get this, install it, and always see what’s trapped and easy to remove clogs…no question, easy piezy lemon squeezy!!!

Uploading photo so that you see what it looks like installed. again, everything fit perfectly and easily for me.

BUY IT, INSTALL IT, Never CLOG!

    Design flaw

Disclaimer: I haven’t bought one of these.

But think about this… you get a clog and spin the knob to eliminate the clog. Great the clog is gone. But now, where does the clog go?

Well… if you’re not prepared to experience more severe (ie. less accessible) clogs downstream in your system, maybe you shouldn’t be buying this device.

    Brilliant idea, poor implementation
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
    Good:

    1) Really nice looking. LOOKS and FEELS solid too. (But, unfortunately, is not. See below.)

    2) The twist-knob REALLY works as advertised and does not leak.

    3) Excellent customer service — the manufacturer is actually READING these discussions and responding to them! Good phone service too.

    Bad:

    1) Hard to install: both the device and the pipe nuts are made of acrylic. And acrylic tends to be somewhat flexible, and as a result, you cannot quite tighten it right: the threads have an affinity to jump (without breaking, that is) once you near the right tightness.

    2) (retracted: problem turned out to not be caused by PermaFlow)

    3) Not sure how to describe it, but after a bit of use a crack has developed in the top flange and the whole thing started to leak. :(

Anyway, I have received a replacement and I will be installing it sometime to give it a second try.

Good idea – poor engineering – NOT FOR KITCHENS
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Tried to install under Kitchen sink. Unit uses “slip” connectors to seal but the acrylic material is too flexible to totally seal. Unlike the White PVC most kitchen sink plumbing is made with, the clear acrylic doesn’t allow the nut to tighten down enough to provide a good seal. No matter how I tried to connect, it leaked where the pie exited from the unit.

The diameter of the unit also isn’t large enough for kitchen drains, it increases the pressure as it narrows and that also contributes to the leaks.

The unit also doesn’t appear to have the same radius as standard “U” sumps which hinders the ease of installation.

All in All a great disappointment.

Have not had it in use long enough to say a lot, but it seems to be of very good quality, and who could argue with the concept? I give it high marks just for being what it is, a great idea!

    Drained

I am a single woman with a single daughter who should have been moved out years ago! For years My bathroom sink would clog leading to use some very strong chemicals or calling on my boy friend to remove the drain and remove the debris. usually lots of hair. I ordered this and presented this task to my boyfriend who was skeptical at first but the knob impressed him. The installation was easy, so easy I know I could have done it myself. But I digressed and let him be the hero. ( I want a man to feel like a man.) He did use plumbers tape to provide a seal. This Drain works flawlessly and the knob to help speed hairy sludge along? It Works! Yeah Plumbers are scared of this product. You won’t need strong chemicals or big manpower for your bathroom sink. Clearly the industry has been set on it’s ear and will post negative reviews without even using the product! Amazing being a woman living alone and growing older by the second this will save many bills down the line. I am looking for many maintenance free products as I grow older and my base finances grow smaller. It is clear, you can see the obstruction or lost item. It’s easy to remove or turn the knob! I will have to use my strong able bodied boyfriend for something else, my imagination runs wild. Hmmm maybe take Home Chef, yard crasher? Bedroom makeover oh yeah! I got a fertile imagination.Something Else (CD+DVD)

Absolutely brilliant. I love it when someone challenges something as simple as a P-Trap, something that’s been the standard forever and makes one of those “I should’ve thought of that” products.

I’ll tell you why I wouldn’t purchase this item

This is a nifty-looking drain, but it’s just not practical. What you have here is a solution in search of a problem. I mean, think about it… how often do you really call a plumber to unclog your kitchen or bathroom sink?

You will need to remove your existing P-trap to install this one. That’s essentially how you can solve the problem that this thing is designed to prevent. In other words, if your drain is clogged, pull off the p-trap and take a look inside. Problem solved, $20 saved.

If your drain is getting clogged more than once every few years, stop and figure out WHY. You either have an undersized drain pipe, or you’re dumping lard and hair down the drain.

Next, that wheel on the side is attached to a shaft which passes through the pipe. Even though it appears to have o-rings sealing it, I can tell you that it is located in a place where you don’t need another reason for a leak to form. In other words, you’re replacing a completely sealed tube with a tube that has a means from which to leak water and eventually ruin your cabinet base.

Finally, installing this thing in place of your existing p-trap isn’t going to be as easy as they imply… unless you already happen to have new pipes under your sink. Your existing pipes are likely to have issues that prevent you from just slipping this thing in place. They will be worn, corroded, etc. Then, you’re gonna need a plumber… or at least a trip to Home Depot to put the old p-trap back.

Is it legal in your area?
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’m a plumber, and many of you will not care about this issue because you don’t understand the risks of bad plumbing, but many traps are not legal, by code, in many areas. There is good reason why they are banned in the code. For instance, bottle traps are not permitted where I live because you can’t see the actual trap. Who’s to say the divider is even in there and actually trapping anything? Though this device looks relatively harmless, it may not be appropriate in your area because it’s not permissible by code, and there probably is a reason that it’s not. Please check with a licensed plumber before installing a device such as this. Sewer gas is of major concern to the health of your family. There are minimum trap seal requirements by code to ensure that your family does not have to breath it and that the trap stays sealed.

It’s awesome! Buy with your eyes shut!

Guess what! It’s such a big peace of mind to know that your drain pipe is transparent. Even when I don’t own a diamond ring that could get lodged there!

Even my very experienced grey-haired ARS guy the other day was awestruck when he saw that. “Where did you get that? It’s amazing!” he remarked. It felt good that I was ahead of his other customers and creating a new market trend.

Ever since I have installed this, drain clog has been a thing of the past.

I purchased 6 PermaFlow products to put into a new home. They work wonderfully. It is so helpful to have a visual of what is or is not in the drain! I recommend them to all my friends. Simple but effective!
